When you enter your home, the creativity gua is center right. (see yellow box). This area represents children and fun and also creativity. You want to enhance this section when things get dull and predictable. This area also represents children so you can use these cures to attract the child you’ve been waiting for. Don’t worry if you are not looking for more kids but only want to enhance your creativity. You can make tha your intention and that’s what your cures will enhance.
In my house the creativity section is the TV room where we also keep our games.
I put up some billowy white curtains and painted the walls in pastels with a white couch and white trim.
This is a great spot for a fountain or one of those Zen gardens. You cold even make your own. Use a pretty flat container or tray, sprinkle with clean white sand and a few of your favorite rocks. Use an old fork for a rake or make your own out of twigs from the yard. You can also find beautiful Zen gardens at import shops like World Market. I’ve even seen them in the dollar store.
Use the walls in this area to display recent photos of your kids or picture drawn by your favorite niece. Anything fun and colorful.
Metal shelves or meal frames.
Think of sherbet and cotton candy and Winnie the Pooh colors here. I’m not saying you have to turn your living room into a nursery, just think light, pale, and fun.
My friend Kathleen calls this my Austin Powers room because of all the fun colors... and the light green beads...
This a perfect spot for a “project” table or the cabinet where you keep all the crowns, paints and art projects.
Display your nieces’ treasures here.
- place art or collectibles in groupings of 7.

Creativity and Children
In previous decades, an ability to conform was essential to success in the manufacturing jobs that proliferated the U.S.A. Even in white collar and government jobs, you had a job description and you stuck to it. I remember being reprimanded back in the early 1990’s for doing too much work - for not strictly sticking to limited duties that had been assigned to me. I was working for the government I felt like a square peg in a round hole. It was difficult for me to thrive in such a restrictive environment and I wondered if I had made a mistake in taking that “good government job.”
Well soon there was downsizing and a new “reinventing government” initiative and everything changed for the better. Suddenly I was the sought after employee. My ideas for simplifying workload and creative problem solving became an asset and my success was assured.
Now-a-days, flexibility and the ability to adapt are valued skill sets in most professions. Creativity is essential to success in many fields. We also need to use our creativity in finding a meaningful compromise between work, family, civic responsibilities, and just plain old free time.
I am a creative person and so I didn’t really value buffing up my creative section of my home. I felt I didn’t need it. But even creative people need to value and enhance their creativity. Paying attention to this area can bring fun back into a life that seems dull. When even your fun activities seem too predictable, take a look at this section of your home and see where you can add some “pop”. You’ll be really glad you did
